This blog covers sensitive topics: adoption, race, religion, and perhaps others — I don’t know where it will go. I do know that often times people become “comfortable” commenting on blogs in ways they might not if the writer was standing in front of them.
Therefore — a few points & ground rules:
1. I will be respectful, honest, and likely not too politically correct.
2. All respectful comments and questions are welcome, so comment away but leave the hating for your conversations with your friends. This isn’t as easy as it looks.
3. Please note that I am going to accurately and honestly capture this process. What does that mean? That means that I am going to share things similar to my conversation with one of my brothers about the old Muslim men with the dyed red beards. I know you know who I’m talking about…the older men in the white flowing outfits with grey or dark hair and bright red beards. That’s what I mean when I say “honestly” capture this process.
4. Lastly, I know my story is unusual and it may even be unique. While this has been a challenging experience, I do believe sharing my story may provide a good opportunity for people to examine their own perceptions and actual knowledge about other cultures. So ask the uncomfortable, hard, and embarrassing questions. You can do so anonymously and I will try to answer them, just give me a few days as I have a job and a family, etc.
That’s generally it. I hope you enjoy reading my blog!
